I tied a new technique for making needles. First I tried to make a thin slice of wood.
Ja sitten tehdä reikää.
And then I carved out the central hole.
Paljon hiekkäpaperi sitten, neula on valmis.
Lots of sandpaper later, and the needle is finished!
It is thinner than my old needle but isn't as smooth. I think this is because I didn't make the new one from wood from the center of a branch. I will try and use the central wood to make my next one.

Virkkuukoukku 2
The last time I tried to make a crochet hook it kind of worked but I thought I'd try to make another one.
Mä vuolin koukkua.
I carved out the basic shape.
Se toimi mutta on liian pitka.
It works to some extent but the head of the hook is too long and tends to catch on the loops.
Kun koukku lyhyeni, se toimi parempi.
I then shortened the head.
Ei ole paha koukku. Ehkä mä voin keksia parempaa valmistuksen tekniikkaa.
Not bad. I can do some projects with it. I think I can make another one that is even better!

I found this here "sand sponge" while I was looking for sandpaper. Sand paper has the annoying habit of heating up to a temperature similar to what can be found on the surface of the sun. Maybe this sponge will be better for prolonged use. I shall try it out on my next project.

Vuolin neulaa
Mä halusin tehdä neulaa puulla. Ensin mä käydin oksaa ja veitsia.
I want to make a wooden needle for needlebinding. First I have my trusty knife and a stick from the Finnish nature.
(Note: If I wanted to use more stylistically "correct" American English I would have said :the Finnish wilderness, from nature, or from the woods next to my house. "the Finnish nature" is not idiomatic in English... yet. :)
Sitten mä vuolin kuori pois.
I whittled off all the bark.
Ja leikasin oksa.
and then somehow managed to get the branches near the end off.
Sitten mä tehdä reikää
I then made a small hole with my knife like so...
Jä tehdä reikä isompaan hiekkapaperilla.
...and made it bigger by sticking a piece of sandpaper through it and sanding it.
Ja paljon hiekkapaperi sitten...
Then after a few much sandpaper usage...
Se näyttää tältä.
It was finished!
Ja mä voin käyttää sitä neulakinnastekniikasta.
Now I can use it to make needle-bound mittens.

Vuolin pöllöä
Tämä on pöllö jota mä oon vuollut. Toivotavasti näytää pöllöstä.
This is the owl that I carved. Hopefully it looks like an owl. Maybe I can make it into a letter opener.

Vuoleminen
Suomen vuoleminen on merkittävä ulkomaassa. Postilaatikossa minulla on paljon ilmaislehtea ja ulkona on paljon oksaa. Ehkä mä voin oppia vuolemaan.
One of the things associated with Finland oversees is woodworking. I happen to have many free newspapers to cover the floor with and I can collect branches from the forest I appear to be living in. Maybe I can also take up woodcarving.
First I need a knife. I bought this one with my language exchange partner. She told me she used the same model when she was young.
With the help of some American drive and ancient Chinese wisdom... I was able to carve this hole! Yay! Unfortunately it doesn't look very much like an owl. Perhaps I need to practice a bit more.
